Last week I learned about Barry Eisler elsewhere on the World Wide Web and was absolutely fascinated by the premise of his John Rain series: Half-Japanese and half-American assassin who specializes in making his jobs appear to be death by natural causes.
Brilliant! I’m eager to add them to the library.
But I need to back the truck up for a second.
About two months ago I joined a thing called BzzAgent, a word–of–mouth marketing Web site that puts companies in touch with people who can help market their products through buzz. Because I said I like to read, BzzAgent also offered me a chance to chat up books. Included in the first offering from them was the first three chapters of Eisler’s latest paperback, Killing Rain. I printed it—along with two other samples—and tossed it the front pocket of my bag. Gone. Forgotten.
Yesterday, while I was returning books at my local library, I rummaged through the front pocket of the aforementioned bag to make sure I didn’t leave anything behind. To my surprise, I pulled out the Eisler sample.
Two words: “Loved it!”
I promise, there will be more to come about this book. Meantime, be sure to check out Eisler’s terriffic blog.
